Current/Ongoing Extracurricular/Cocurricular Projects

Baseball/Softball Complex

During a Special Meeting called on November 27, the Board of Trustees approved the contract recommendation for artificial turf installation and other related improvements at CSHS Softball/Baseball complex. See MySouthlakeNews.com story here.

This facility improvement is a part of 2017 Bond Phase I of this complex. The cost of this project will not exceed $1,944,015 and will be paid through Bond funds approved in the 2017 Carroll Bond.

The project includes the installation of artificial turf at the softball and baseball fields. These improvements will lower the maintenance and operational costs for both of the athletic facilities. Also, this project will be able to alleviate some of the scheduling issues that have occurred in the past due to rainouts and other factors. Phase II of this improvement project began in the summer of 2018.

The project is behind schedule following the wettest year in DFW history, but should be completed by the start of the 2019-2020 school year.

This 2017 Carroll Bond project continues to help the district achieve their goal of lowering the overall Carroll ISD operational cost.

On August 21, 2017 the Carroll School Board approved the selection of LPA, Inc. to assist the district in executing this project as required to a successful conclusion. The schedule on this project is critical as it is needing to be accomplished around the usage of the complex.

Turf Project for Football/Practice Fields

As part of the 2017 Bond, the Capital Needs Planning Committee and Administration reviewed all the competition football fields and tracks. The Committee had a desire to turf seven football fields (3-CSHS, 1- CHS, 1- CMS, 1- DMS, and Dragon Stadium replacement) but after further review and because of cost concerns, the final CNPC recommendation was for only six fields to be turfed. The field that was removed was one of the two adjoining practice fields at CSHS.

As the Administration developed a bid package to be used in the inter-local contract (procurement process), an additional practice football field at CSHS was added to the bid package. The Administration believes this can be done within the allotted budget. The concept was presented to the Bond Advisory Committee on Nov. 28, 2017. The BAC agreed that it would be the most beneficial to the district to include this additional field in the bid package to be able to leverage the economy of scale with bidding all seven fields together.

At the December 4, 2017 meeting, the Carroll School Board approved the addition of the seventh field into the bid package for the CISD football fields to be turfed through the inter-local contract procurement process.

Trustees also approved the replacement of the turf in the indoor workout facility. The facility will be closed from May 1 to August 1 for renovations and turf replacement.

Turf is also being added at the Carroll High School campus and replaced at Dragon Stadium during the summer of 2019.
